Abstract:
In this study, the availability of waste foundry sand in the production of landfill cap layer material was investigated. Two type of alkali phenolic resin (inorganic) bonded waste foundry sand which one of them is concretive added sand and the other one CO2 process was used in the experiments. Test samples were prepared as follow; 75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 95% and 100% foundry sand by volumetric as replacement of sewage sludge as a multiple material. Mechanical, leaching and micro-structural properties including index properties such as particle size distribution, specific gravity and consistency limits besides permeability, compaction characteristics, shear strength test and odometer test of foundry sand-based samples to obtain the useful fractions of foundry wastes and sewage sludge in landfill area. Geotechnical test results indicate that waste foundry sand with sewage sludge can satisfactorily be used as a landfill cap layer material and can be utilized as landfill cap layer material without any environmental concern with the requirements of local authorities.
