Staratejik yönetim düşüncesine pozisyon okulunun katkısı

Abstract

Yönetim bilimleri duvarının son tuğlası olarak değerlendirebileceğimiz stratejik yönetim alanı, özellikle 1980’lerden günümüze hızla gelişim göstermiş ve alana yapılan düşünsel katkılarla derinlikli bir niteliğe bürünmüştür. Michael E. Porter alanın en önde gelen isimlerinden biri olarak değerlendirilmektedir ve sunmuş olduğu çerçeve strateji literatürünün önde gelen referans kaynaklarından biri olmuştur. Çalışmamızda, neredeyse tüm strateji yazınında kendisine atıf yapılan Porter’ın katkısının özgünlüğü tartışılmaya çalışılmıştır. Aynı zamanda bu katkının alanın bilimselleşmesi sürecindeki konumu belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamada, sadece Porter’ın düşüncelerini ele almak yerine, kendisinden önceki ve sonraki dönemler de dikkate alınmak suretiyle bütüncül bir bakışla çalışmamızın sorunsalına yanıt aranmıştır. Đnceleme sonucunda, Porter kendi düşüncelerinin arka planında kendisinden önce var olan kuram ve kavramları yeniden ele alarak, kendi modeli içerisinde başka bir kimliğe soktuğu görülmüştür. Gerek planlama okulunun görüşleri, gerek Harvard Ekolünün etkisi, gerekse endüstriyel organizasyon kuramının varsayımları Porter’ın çerçevesinde yer bulmuş ancak hiçbir görüş olduğu gibi alınarak muhafaza edilmeden, kendi düşünsel iddiaları ışığında yeniden şekillenmiştir. Bu bağlamda Porter’ın katkısı özgün bir katkı olarak düşünülmektedir. Kendisine getirilen eleştiriler nedeniyle alanda düşünsel tartışma zeminin de zenginleşmesini sağlayarak, alanın bilimselleşmesi yönünde de önemli bir katkı sunmuştur.

The strategic management discipline which can be described as the “last brick of the management sciences wall” has been fascinatingly fast in terms of development trend as well as becoming more scholar with several contributions made by several thinkers. Michael E. Porter is considered as one of the leading profiles of the discipline and has become one of the most cited references in the field. In this study, the contribution of Porter who was cited in almost every academic research in the field is being assessed. At the same time it is tried to spot this contribution and it’s position in the process of scientification of the discipline. In this context, it was not only aimed at clarifying the Porter’s thoughts as a literature review but also justifying the Porter’s framework as a means of a phase in the strategic thinking and this analysis is an attempt to answer the research problematic of this study. As a result of the analysis made, it is seen that Porter evaluated the prior researches’ contribution to the area and built up his own way of thinking and understanding strategic issues. Either planning school’s or industrial organisation school’s thoughts were considered and these thoughts have been transformed in the light of his ideas. To summarise, Porter has been contributing the discipline by founding a critical atmosphere and this has helped the sicentification and sophistication of the strategic management field.
