dc.description.abstract This paper presents a conceptual model for the Web-based virtual testing and learning (WVTL) in applied sciences, especially in the area of materials science and engineering. WVTL is not an existing field but rather an idea, which could be easily handled for educational purposes and staff training as well as for new materials, products and prototypes testing. The paper reports exclusively on the use and services of simulations on the Web and the potential use of WVTL as well as the trends and opportunities in the area.
