dc.description.abstract An experimental investigation of the application of biodiesel on a diesel engine performance and emissions has been presented. Engine tests arc done for SME and its 5, 15,30 and 60% blends with diesel fuel. The results showed that the use of biodiesel produced lower smoke opacity (up to 29%) with an increase in the BSFC (lower than 7%). The CO emissions of B5 and B100 were lower 7.5% and 24% than that of the diesel fuel at all load engine conditions, respectively. The BSFC of pure biodiesel was found to be higher by 6.9% than that of the diesel fuel.
