1967 yılında İtalyan sanat eleştirmeni ve küratör Germano Celant'ın genç İtalyan sanatçıların avangard çalışmaları hakkında yazdığı "Bir Gerilla İçin Notlar" adlı makalede öne sürülen Arte Povera (Yoksul Sanat) kavramı, 1962-1972 yıllarını kapsayan savaş sonrası dönemin en yenilikçi ve etkili avangard sanat hareketlerinden biri haline gelmiştir. The concept of Arte Povera (Poor Art), proposed in 1967 in an article titled "Notes for a Guerrilla" written by Italian art critic and curator Germano Celant about the avant-garde works of young Italian artists, became one of the most innovative and influential avant-garde art movements of the post-war period spanning the years 1962-1972. In the context of the "Italian Miracle" economic boom of 1968 and the student and worker revolts that followed, Arte Povera created a different breakthrough in avant-garde art with the impulse to rebel not only against the primacy of painting in the post-war period but also against the emerging consumer culture. Italian artists, who showed themselves in social events created by sociological problems related to the relationship between art and politics, later carried the Arte Povera movement to the dynamics of everyday life. With their understanding that became open to an unlimited use of objects, the artists included materials related to everyday life such as iron, coal, haystacks, pieces of paper, mirrors, stones and soil in their works with sincere sensitivity and sincerity. On the other hand, Arte Povera artists, who brought an experience-oriented performative perspective to the relations between nature and humans, observed the dimensions of reality firsthand and at the same time, by following the processes of ordinary physical situations that can be encountered at any moment, they gained an artistic content for the formation of the object. In addition to natural objects, the artists' interpretation of industrial production objects in various contexts revealed an effective artistic understanding directed at the reality of life itself. The Arte Povera movement, which progressed with the aim of eliminating the boundaries between daily life and art, brought together a wide range of disciplines including catalogue, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, film and performance in the methods it applied. In the Arte Povera movement, the application methods that emerged from the relations between humans, nature and industry paved the way for the contemporary art methods that would come after it.
