The 'Attitudes towards Premarital General Health Screening Scale'

Abstract

Aim This study was conducted to develop a valid and reliable scale to determine the attitudes of individuals towards premarital screening tests.Subject and methods This methodological study was conducted between 15 March 2022 and 15 February 2023. The scale items prepared by making use of the literature were shaped by taking expert opinions; the scale was first administered in a preliminary fashion, data were collected from 428 people through questionnaires, and validity and reliability analyses were performed.Results In the exploratory factor analysis for the scale of attitudes towards premarital screening tests, it was determined that the scale consisted of 19 items and two sub-dimensions, namely Perception of sensitivity and Perception of obstacle. The explanatory coefficient of the scale was found to be 60.946%. For the measurement of the applicability of exploratory factor analysis for the scale, KMO value was 0.948, and Bartlett's test of sphericity value was X2 = 5142.666; df = 171, p < .05. During the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) process, it was seen that the Chi-square fit indices of this scale were also significant (X2/SD = 2.952). Other fit indices were found as RMSEA = .068, CFI = .942, AGFI = .873, GFI = 0.900, NFI = .915, IFI = .942, TLI = .934. Considering the fit indices, it was concluded that the fit indices of the scale ranged between good fit and acceptable fit index values. According to Cronbach's alpha value, the internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found to be 0. 932. Similarly, it was concluded that the two-half reliability coefficients were 0. 927 for the first part and 0. 917 for the second part. All these values show that the scale is reliable.Conclusion In this study, the validity and reliability analyses used in the development of the scale demonstrated that the Attitudes towards Premarital General Health Screening Scale was a valid and reliable scale.
