İnsanlık tarihi ile başlayan spor hareketleri, tarih boyunca çok çeşitli ve farklı amaçlar uğruna yapılmıştır. İlk önceleri tabi ihtiyaçların karşılanması amacı ile yapılan spor, daha sonraları beden eğitimi amacı ile yapılmıştır. Zamanla sportif hareketler sosyal bir boyut kazanmış ve başlı başına spor önemli bir sosyolojik vaka haline gelmiştir. Bunun yanında siyaset kavramı da çok eski bir kavramdır. Modern hayata geçmeden önce de siyaset olduğu gibi, özellikle modern devletin ortaya çıkması ile birlikte siyasetin toplum üzerindeki gücü artmıştır. İlk çağlardan beri siyasetçiler sporun toplum üzerindeki gücünü görmüşler ve bunu kullanmak istemişlerdir. Çoğunlukla da bunda başarılı olmuşlardır. Özellikle az gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde, eski demir perde devletlerinde ve baskı rejimlerinde spor siyasetçiler tarafından, halkı kontrol altında tutmak maksadıyla kullanılmıştır. Bir nevi spor, toplumsal buhranları önlemekte emniyet sibobu görevini üstlenmiştir. Dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de spor, özellikle çok partili siyasi hayata geçişten sonra, siyasetçiler tarafından bir güç olarak kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Yapılan çalışmada spor ve siyaset kavramlarının var olunduğundan beri birbirleri ile ilişkili kavramlar olduğu ve sporun siyasetçiler tarafından her zaman önemli bir güç olarak kullanıldığı görülmüştür.
Sport activites which started with history of human have been done in many ways and for different aims by the people. In early ages sports have been done for the natural needs and then it changed its way to physical education. Sports became social event with the time pases. Also politics is an old concept like sports. Politics has also been before the, civilization and after it, especially by the modern goverment, politics has increased its force on the society. In the ancient times politicians realized the effects of sports on people and tried to use it and they did this well. In the developed and semi-developed countries, and in the old Komünist countries politicians used sports in order to control the people. By the way sports prevents social crisis and provides social safety. In our country, as well as in the world, especially after the transition to the multi-party politic life, sports has been used as a power by the politicians. In this study we saw that, sport and policy were the related concepts since they have been, and sport has always been used as an important power by the politicians.
