Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, ilköğretim 6. ve 7. sınıf sosyal bilgiler dersinin demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim kazandırmadaki rolünü öğrenci görüşlerine göre analiz ederek ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın araştırma evrenini ise 2008-2009 eğitim öğretim yılında Sakarya iline bağlı 4 ilköğretim okulunun 6. ve 7. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır.Araştırmada araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanmış Demokratik Tutum Ölçeği ve Üstün Dökmen (1988) tarafından hazırlanan Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Demokratik Tutum Ölçeğinin güvenirlik katsayısı r.94, Empatik Eğilim Ölçeğinin ise r.82 bulunmuştur. Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler SPSS paket programında analiz edilerek yorumlanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesi sürecinde frekans, yüzde, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, t testi, one way anowa testi kullanılmıştır. Yapılan istatistiksel çözümlemelerde anlamlılık düzeyi p? 0.5 olarak kabul edilmiştir.Araştırma sonucunda sosyal bilgiler dersinin öğrencilerin demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim kazandırmasında önemli bir etkisinin olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Öğrencilerin demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim düzeylerinde cinsiyete göre anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmış ve kız öğrencilerin demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim düzeylerinin daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin okudukları sınıf ile demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunamamıştır. Öğrencilerin anne baba eğitim durumları ile demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim düzeyleri arasında anne babası üniversite mezunu olanların lehine anlamlı bir sonuç bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin anne baba iş durumları ile demokratik tutum ve empatik eğilim düzeyleri arasındaki ilişki araştırıldığında ise anlamlı bir fark olmadığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
The main aim of this study is to analyse the role of social science course, which are taught at 6th and 7th classes of secondary school, on democratic attitude and empathetic inclination gain by analyzing students opinions. The research universe of this study consists of 4 different secondary schools? students of 6th and 7th classes in 2008-2009 semesters in the province of Sakarya.In the research, the Democratic Attitude Criterion prepared by author and the Empathetic Inclination Criterion by Ustun Dokmen (1988) are used. The reliability factor of the Democratic Attitude Criterion was found out r.94 while the Empathetic Inclination Criterion?s reliability factor was out r.82. The data obtained from the research were compiled in the packet programme of SPSS. In the process of analysing these data; frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test, one way anowa test methodologies were used. As a result of the statistical analysis, the level of meaningfulness was declared as p? 0.5.In the light of this research, it was found that there was an important impact of the social science course on students? democratic attitude level and empathetic inclination gain. The levels of the democratic attitude and empathetic inclination of female students are higher than that of male students which means that the democratic attitude level and empathetic inclination level varies significantly with respect to gender. It couldn?t be found that there is a reasonable difference between democratic attitude level and empathetic inclination level in relation to the classes of the students. The significant results in favour of those students whose mothers and fathers are graduated of university are found in terms of their democratic attitude levels and empathetic inclination levels. By investigating the relation between the working conditions of these students? mothers and fathers, and their democratic attitude levels and empathetic inclination levels, it was concluded that there is no meaningful difference.
