Edebi metinlerde coğrafi perspektif; Elif Şafak romanlarının analizi

Abstract

Edebiyat ve coğrafya çok eski zamanlardan itibaren yeryüzünde insanın hikâyesini yazma konusunda ortak bir paydada buluşmuştur. Coğrafyanın mekânı ve insanı inceleme biçimi küreselden yerele çok farklı ölçek ve konulardadır. Bu durum coğrafyayı diğer bilimler arasında farklı ve özel kılan durumlardan biridir. Coğrafyacı önce çevresinden başlamak üzere ülke ve dünya meselelerine ilgi duyar ve çözüm arar. Benzer şekilde yazar da içinde yaşadığı toplumu ve çevresindeki insanları gözlemler, ülkesinde ve dünyada yaşanan olaylara ilgili ve duyarlıdır. Yazarların duygu ve düşüncelerini etkili bir biçimde ifade ettikleri romanlar ise coğrafi unsurların fazlası ile yer aldığı edebi metin türleridir. Özellikle bazı yazarlar romanlarında coğrafi konuları gerek fiziki ortam gerekse beşeri bir mesele olarak ele almışlardır. Elif Şafak da bu yazarlardan biri olarak romanlarında coğrafi konuları sıklıkla ve başarılı bir şekilde işlemektedir. Bu çalışmanın konusu da Elif Şafak'ın romanlarında yer alan coğrafi unsur ve meselelerin coğrafya merkezli okuma yöntemi ile metin analizlerini gerçekleştirmektir. Ayrıca romanlarda geçen şahıs ve mekânlara ait veri tabanları oluşturularak romanların analizleri gerçekleştirilmiş ve coğrafi bilgi sistemleri yazılımı olan Arc. GIS ile romanlarda mekânların dağılım haritaları oluşturulmuştur. Romanların metin analizleri ile istatiksel analizleri sonucunda edebi metinler üzerinde coğrafyanın etkisi ve önemi ortaya çıkmıştır. Mekânların dağılım haritaları incelendiğin de yazarların yaşadığı ortam, şehir ve ülkelerin romanlarında etkili olduğu yazarın coğrafyasının bir anlamda romanın coğrafyası da haline geldiği görülmektedir. Dolayısı ile edebiyat ve coğrafyanın buluştuğu edebiyat coğrafyası hem coğrafyanın öneminin anlaşılmasında hem de coğrafya eğitimde yazarlara ve eserlerine önem verilmesi gerektiği anlaşılmaktadır. Throughout history, literature and geography have worked cooperatively in telling man's story on earth. The ways geography studies places and people vary in terms of scale and topics, both in global and local levels. This is one of the factors that make geography unique among other disciplines. Taking issues around him into consideration first, a geographer is interested in country and world issues and also attempts to come up with solutions for them. An author, likewise, observes his community and people; he is also concerned about happenings in his own country as well as in the world. Novels, in which authors express their feelings and opinions effectively, are pieces of literature where geographical elements are highly included. Some authors, particularly, deals with geographical issues in their novels as both a physical surrounding and a humane issue. As one of such authors, Elif Şafak handles geographical issues frequently and with success. This study aims to perform text analyses of these elements and issues in Elif Şafak's novels through geography-centered reading method, also known as géo-littéraire, and to demonstrate the effect of geography on literary texts, mainly on novels. In this way, scientific and social importance of literary geography, which unites literature and geography, will be highlighted. Furthermore, the databases of the figures and places in the novels were formed and analyzes of the novels were realized and distribution maps of places were created in novels by Arc. With GIS, the geographical information systems software. It is seen as a result of the text and statistical analyzes of the novels the effect of the geography on the literary texts. When the distribution maps of the places are examined, it is seen that the environment, the cities and the countries in which the authors live are influential in their novels, and the author's geography has become a geography of the novel in a sense. Hence it is understood that literary geography, formed by literature and geography, is not only contribute to the understanding of the importance of geography but also the necessity to give attention to authors and their works in geography education.
