Cumhuriyet döneminde yayınlanan tercüme dergilerinin çeviri sosyolojisi açısından irdelenmesi (1940-1946)

Abstract

Bu tezde İsmet İnönü döneminde yayınlanan Tercüme dergileri çeviri sosyolojisi bakış açısı ile irdelenmiştir. Cumhuriyet'in ilanından 1946 yılına kadar geçen dönem içerisinde çeviri stratejisi ile beraber toplumda eğitim, dil, tarih vb. bir çok alanda sosyo-kültürel değişiklikler meydana gelmiştir. Atatürk döneminde görülen ulusçu ve milliyetçi anlayış kısa bir süre sonra yerini Batılı bir ideoloji olan hümanist düşünceye bırakmıştır. Atatürk'ün ölümünden hemen sonra İsmet İnönü'nün Cumhurbaşkanı seçilmesiyle dönemin devlet politikası hümanist düşünce "Türk Hümanizması" olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu hümanist düşünce doğrultusunda Tercüme Bürosunun kurulması ile başta Yunan, Latin ve Batı edebiyatlarından klasikler çevrilmiştir. Tercüme Bürosu ve Tercüme Dergisi yaptığı çeviriler ile ülkede kültür ithalinin yapılmasını sağlamıştır. Bu kültür ithalinin yaygınlaşmasını Tercüme Dergileri iki ayda bir çıkarmış oldukları sayılar ile desteklemiştir. Tercüme dergisinin o dönemde çıkan sayıları çeviri sosyolojisi açısından Gideon Toury'nin "Çeviri Normaları" ve Even Zohar'ın "Çoğul Dizge Kuramı" ile açıklanmıştır. Çeviri normları bağlamında Tercüme Bürosu sadece hangi eserlerin çevirilerinin yapılması gerektiği konusunda değil, hangi kriterler dahilinde eserlerin nasıl çevrilmesi gerektiği konusunda da adımlar atmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra dönemin içinde bulunduğu durum kültür ithalinin çeviri yoluyla yapılması zorunlu kılmıştır.

This thesis seeks to investigate, from the point of view of sociology of translation, the Translation journals published in the Inönü Period. When a new translation strategy was introduced with the proclamation of the Republic, the society faced as a whole a number of socio-cultural changes in a wide range of fields, including education, language and history until the year 1946. The nationalist thought of the Atatürk Period was replaced after a while by humanist thought, a Western ideology. With the election of Ismet İnönü as President shortly after the death of Atatürk, the policy of the state then was defined as "Turkish Humanism". Translation Bureau having been established with the development of this humanist thought, translations of a collection of Greek, Latin and Western classics were made. The translations of the Bureau brought about a heavy importation of culture into the country. The Translation Journals on the their part contributed largely to the spreading of such an importation of culture with a new issue published in every other month. The issues of the Journal published in the period under investigation have been explored with special reference to "Translation Norms" of Gideon Toury and "Polysystem Theory" of Even Zohar. As part of translation norms, the Translation Bureau took steps not only about which works to be translated, but also about what criteria to follow in the translations. Besides, the conditions of the period then obviously necessiated that the importation of culture be carried out by means of translation.
