Jack London'ın Âdem'den Önce adlı eserinin Türkçeye çevirisinin Vinay ve Darbelnet'nin çeviri yöntemleri bağlamında incelenmesi ve çeviribilimsel bir değerlendirme = An examination of Turkish translation of Jack London's "Before Adam" according to Vinay and Darbelnet's translation methods and an evaluation in terms of translation studies

Abstract

Çeviri ilk ortaya çıkışından bu yana hep farklı açılardan, farklı koşullar altında ve farklı imkanlar dahilinde inceleme ve tartışma konusu olmuştur. Günümüzde bu konu artık en çok akademik düzeyde yapılan çalışmaların konusudur ve günümüz itibariyle büyük ilerlemeler kaydetmiştir. Yakın geçmişe kadar çeviri hakkındaki akademik çalışmalar dilbilim kapsamında ele alınmaktaydı ancak geçen yüzyılın son çeyreğinden bu yana artık çeviribilim kendi başına bir bilim olma iddiasına kavuşuştur. Bu çalışmanın konusu bu iki dönemdeki farklı yaklaşımları bir örnek üzerinden ortak paydada buluşturmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında Vinay ve Darbelnet'nin açıkladığı yedi çeviri yöntemi, Jack London'ın Âdem'den Önce eserinin Türkçeye çevirisini incelemek üzere kullanılmış olup, modern çeviribilim kavram ve kuramları ile bu yöntemler ve adı geçen eser arasında ilişki kurulmuştur. Çalışma Vinay ve Darbelnet'nin yöntemlerini çeviribilim için önemli bir konumda tutar ve bundan sonra yapılacak çeviribilim çalışmalarında bu yöntemlere daha çok dikkat verilmesini bir gereklilik olarak değerlendirir. Çalışma kapsamında adı geçen kitabın İngilizce orijinali ile Türkçe çevirisi karşılaştırılarak çeviri sürecinde kullanılan yöntemler ve dağılımları incelenmiştir. Doğrudan ve dolaylı olmak üzere ikiye ayrılan bu yöntemlerden dolaylı çeviri yöntemleri bu kitabın çevirisinde görünür şekilde daha çok kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonunda ortaya çıkan sonuçlar çevirmenin tercihleri, metnin türü, hedef ve kaynak diller arasındaki ilişki gibi kavramlarla bağdaştırılmış ve çeviribilim açısından değerlendirmeler yapılarak ayrıntılı bir şekilde sunulmuştur.

Translation has always been a subject of research and debate under different circumstances, within different possibilities and contexts since its early periods. Today, it is mostly a subject of studies in the sphere of academic research, and as of now it had made a significant progress. Until recently, the academic studies on translation were within the field of linguistics, however today translation studies have the status of being an independent study field, since the last quarter of the last century. The content of this paper brings the different approaches from these two periods together via an example. Within the study of this paper, seven translation methods which were declared by Vinay and Darbelnet are used in order to analyze the Turkish translation of Before Adam, written by Jack London, and a relation is detected among these seven methods, the translation theories and this book. The study regards the methods of Vinay and Darbelnet as significant, and shows the necessity of the attention will be paid on these methods by the forthcoming studies which are going to be made within the field of translation studies. By this paper, the source text in English and the Turkish translation of the book are compared, the methods adopt during the translation and their distribution are analyzed. Between the two main branches of these methods, which are the direct one and the oblique one, the oblique translation methods are significantly more used. At the end of the study, the results are connected with the concepts such as translator's decisions, text type and the relation between the source and target languages; and finally, the evaluations in terms of translation studies are introduced.
