Türkiye'de Kibrit İnhisarı ve Büyükdere Kibrit Fabrikası = Match Monopoly in Turkey and Büyükdere Match Factory

Abstract

Cumhuriyet'in ilanı ile birlikte Türkiye ulusal ekonomiyi güçlendirmek ve bağımsızlığını pekiştirmek adına endüstrileşmeye büyük önem vermiştir. Tarihsel olarak, Kibrit İnhisarı'nın faaliyet gösterdiği dönem, Türkiye'nin milli sanayileşme çabalarının bir yansıması olarak kabul edilmektedir. Büyükdere Kibrit Fabrikası, özellikle kibrit üretimi alanında faaliyet göstererek, milli tüketim ihtiyaçlarını karşılama ve dışa bağımlılığı azaltma amacı taşımıştır. Bu tarihsel önem, Türkiye'nin ekonomik gelişimine etki eden faktörleri anlamak ve ülkenin endüstriyel dönüşüm sürecini değerlendirmek adına kritik bir bakış sunmaktadır. Kibrit İnhisarı'nın tarihçesi, sadece bir şirketin evrimini değil, aynı zamanda Türkiye'nin milli kimliğini şekillendiren ve ekonomik bağımsızlığını güçlendiren bir süreci de yansıtmaktadır. Çalışmada, Türkiye'nin sanayileşme çabalarına olan katkılarıyla ilgili kapsamlı bir perspektif sunarak tarihsel bir zeminde önemli bir konu ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nde de faaliyet gösteren Kibrit İnhisarı'nı özel bir odak noktası olarak ele almak, özellikle The American Turkish Investment Corporation ve Büyükdere Kibrit Fabrikası'nın rolünü detaylı bir şekilde inceleyerek literatürdeki boşlukları doldurmak ve bu tarihsel sürecin ekonomik, endüstriyel ve milli kalkınma bağlamında anlamını ortaya koymaktır. Aynı zamanda, Türkiye'nin bağımsızlık sonrası dönemdeki sanayileşme çabalarını ve Kibrit İnhisarı'nın bu çabalar içindeki konumunu anlamak, ülkenin ekonomik bağımsızlığını güçlendiren faktörleri değerlendirmek ve Türk-Amerikan işbirliğinin Türk endüstrisi üzerindeki etkilerini analiz etmektir.

With the proclamation of the Republic, Turkey attached great importance to industrialisation in order to strengthen the national economy and consolidate its independence. Historically, the period during which the Match Factory was in operation is considered as a reflection of Turkey's national industrialisation efforts. The Büyükdere Match Factory, especially in the field of match production, aimed to meet national consumption needs and reduce foreign dependency. This historical significance provides a critical perspective to understand the factors affecting Turkey's economic development and to evaluate the country's industrial transformation process. The history of the Match Monopoly reflects not only the evolution of a company, but also a process that shaped Turkey's national identity and strengthened its economic independence. The study addresses an important issue in the historical context, providing a comprehensive perspective on its contribution to Turkey's industrialisation efforts. The main purpose of this study is to take the Match Exemptions in the Republic of Turkey as a special focus, to fill the gaps in the literature by analyzing in detail the role of The American Turkish Investment Corporation and the Büyükdere Match Factory in particular, and to reveal the meaning of this historical process in the context of economic, industrial and national development. The study also aims to understand Turkey's industrialisation efforts in the post-independence period and the position of the Match Factory within these efforts, to evaluate the factors that strengthened the country's economic independence and to analyse the effects of Turkish-American cooperation on Turkish industry.
