STABILISATION OF UNIFORM SAND BY CEMENT SUMMARY Key words: Uniform sand, cement, stabilization, unconfined compression This thesis describes the details of investigation performed to evaluate the properties of a uniform fine sand stabilised with cement. The sand has been obtained from the Black Sea coast where a building site for the personnel of the Istanbul Technical University is being established. The sand is part of the mine spoil left behind from former operations,and covers considerable areas on the site. It was studied to determine whether this sand could be used as subbase for the roads of the estate, instead of discarding it. The results show that 6 percent cement is sufficient to impart appropriate mechanical properties to this material. IX
