1950'de iktidara gelen Demokrat Parti'nin iç ve dış politikadaki duruşu kaçınılmaz olarak ülkenin gündelik hayatına etki etmiştir. Bu etkinin en çok görünür olduğu yerlerden biri Adana olmuştur. 1950 ile 1960 arasında Adana insanının gündemini belirleyen konular, sorunlar ve tartışmalar yerel basına yansıdığı oranda gündelik hayatın detaylarına ilişkin bilgiler vermektedir. DP'nin iktisat politikaları, 1950'li yıllarda bölgenin tarım ve sanayi hayatını etkilemiştir. Bu gelişmeler şehrin demografik yapısından eğlence hayatına kadar sirayet etmiştir. Şehre yönelik çevre bölgelerden gelen göçlerle nüfus artmış, gecekondulaşma başlamış, mekânsal ayrışma ortaya çıkmıştır. Tüccarların bir kısmı şehre yatırım yapmış, hükümetin de desteğiyle çeşitli fabrikalar açılmıştır. Adana'da bu yıllarda faaliyette bulunan bar, kahvehane, tiyatro, sinema gibi mekânlar gündelik hayat pratiklerinin yaşandığı kamusal alanlardır. Dolayısıyla bu mekânlarda yaşanan değişim ve dönüşüm gündelik hayat pratiklerini doğrudan etkilemiştir. Şehrin zengin sosyo-kültürel hayatı Adana'nın Türkiye'ye birçok edebiyatçı ve sinemacı kazandırmasına imkân sağlamıştır. Türkiye'nin Amerikayla olan yakın ilişkileri bu dönemde Adana'da İncirlik Hava Üssü'nün kurulması sürecini başlatmış ve bu üsle birlikte şehre gelen Amerikalı askeri personeller şehrin gündelik hayatına yön vererek çeşitli tartışmaların yaşanmasına vesile olmuşlardır. Adana halkının Amerikalılara ve ülkenin Amerikancı politikalarına bakışı iktidarın söylemlerinin halk üzerindeki etkisini yansıtmıştır. Gündelik hayatın belirleyici unsuru olarak bu dönemde şehirde yaşanan sorunlar da ayrıca ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada söz konusu yıllarda "sıradan insanın" gündelik hayatını yönlendiren etkenler ve "sıradan insanın" bu etkenlere karşı gösterdiği tepkiler ortaya konmuştur.
The Democratic Party (who came to power in 1950)'s, domestic and foreign politic stance inevitably affected the country's daily life. One of the places where this affect was most visible was Adana. The issues, problems, and discussions on the Adana people's agenda, gives detailed information regarding their daily life at the rate of its reflection on local media. DP's economic policies affected the agricultural and industrial life of the area. These developments spread from the demographic of the city and through to the nightlife. With the migration from surrounding areas the city saw an increase in population, the start of slum areas, and spatial disintegration. Some of the merchants invested in the city and various factories opened with the support of the government. Places such as bars, coffee shops, theatres, and cinemas were operating in these years in Adana where the public places where people went about their daily life. Therefore, the transformation of these places directly affected daily life. Turkey gained many writers and filmmakers due to Adana's rich socio-cultural life. Turkey's close ties with the United States led to the initiation of the Incirlik Air Base in Adana and the American personnel that came to the city sparked controversy by dominating the city's daily life. The views of the Adana people of Americans and the country's American political view reflected the influence of the government's discourse over the people. The problems pertaining to the problems faced in the city during this period as a determining factor of daily life has also been addressed. This study revealed the factors influencing the daily life of "ordinary people" during these years and the reactions they showed towards these factors.
