Abstract:
Both trench type barriers and artificial bedrock as wave impeding block (WIB) can be used in practical engineering applications as isolation measures to protect foundations and structures from human made vibration sources. In this paper, discrete computer model including non-linear soil conditions as well as radiation damping is improved for analyzing related to wave propagation problems with soil-structure interaction effects due to the railway traffic induced vibrations and mitigation of building responses. Parametric investigations by using the developed numerical model for both isolation systems have been executed for both active and passive isolation cases to conceive the influence of different geometry and material properties on the screening efficiency. The analysis confirms that trench type barriers are more applicable in engineering problems and the obtained screening effect on the building vibrations is about 40-70% for the optimum trench geometry and installing location.
