Abstract:
The Dinar earthquake took place at Dinar, western Turkey, on October 1(st), 1995. In this study, ground condition effects on the dynamic, response of the Dinar earthquake of magnitude, M-w = 6.2, is investigated. Linear elastic and elasto-plastic behavior of horizontal soil layers subjected to dynamic and repeated loading are presented. The analyses are carried out by using the finite element method (FEM). The soil layers are modeled as one dimensional (ID) shear beam elements, considering shear deformations only. The hyperbolic soil model was used to simulate cyclic behavior of soils under repeated loading. The numerical solutions for both linear elastic and elasto-plastic behavior are presented as the change of displacements and shear stresses with respect to time. The amplification effects of soil on earthquake waves are also investigated by using the computer code SHAKE91.
