Abstract:
Damage cost analysis studies form a significant part of the large number of studies carried out with the objective of protecting against the effects of flood disasters and reducing the losses arising from such disasters, which have frequently been occurring across the world in the last few decades as a result of climate change. However, a study of the estimated flood costs appropriate to the socio-economic conditions of Turkey has not been carried out. This deficiency is also mentioned in the report titled 'Flood Damage Functions for EU Member States' prepared for the EU member states. In this study, flood analyses for 50, 100 and 500-year intervals have been carried out for Agva, a touristic peripheral settlement area of Istanbul, which is a critical area for flood disasters because of its location between two streams. As a result of the flood analyses carried out, the water level for each residential property exposed to flooding has been determined, and the estimated costs of the damage that would occur in materials and furnishings in the properties have been calculated.
