Abstract:
In the present work, the aim is to determine seasonal changes in the concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Ni and Zn in the water of Sapanca Lake and to determine the water quality. Sapanca is one of lakes which can be used as the resource of drinking water in Turkey. In addition, Sapanca Lake is one of the most important drinking water sources for the province of Sakarya and its surroundings. Ten different stations were chosen as sampling points. Water samples were collected from these stations in January 2016, April 2016, July 2016 and October 2016. The samples were digested with the use of a microwave digestion procedure. The heavy metal analysis of samples was carried out using ICP-MS. In general, heavy metal concentrations in the lake water decreased in the following sequence: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu > Ni> Cr > Pb > Cd. Concentrations of the heavy metals Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Ni, and Zn in the water of Sapanca Lake are at acceptable levels according to WHO (World Health Organization) and TS 266 (Turkish Standard) water standards.
