Abstract:
In this study, piston rings (PR) were coated with Molybdenum (Mo) powder High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) coating method. In addition, the wear behavior of the Mo coated PR and the cast iron (CI) cylinder liner (CL) were examined. The parameters of load, temperature and revolution wear were optimized according to L-27 array of Taguchi method in order to obtain minimum wear loss in wear tests. It has been determined from the experimental results that the most effective parameter for the minimum wear loss of both the PR and the CL was the load. Mathematical models were obtained using regression analysis. The results of the verification test of the optimization method and the experimental results were very close to each other. Wear maps have been created for the PR and CL. The analysis of the wear surfaces showed that the abrasive wear mechanism was dominant.
