The concept of representation is seen as the result of the distance between the ruling and the ruled, which means a political division in the society. The study, which considers this concept as a product of the political processes in the religious sphere, aims to discuss how those in the ruling position define and reveal religion and how they represent it on this occasion. In this context, by defining the Directory of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) as the agency of institutionalized religious power in Turkey, the study focuses on how this institution represents Alevism. Hence, it is discussed on the political reflections of the tension between Diyanet and Alevi authorities caused by this Alevi representation. The study analyzes January-February 1992 issues of Diyanet Monthly Magazine, by which Alevi representation of the Directory of Religious Affairs clearly shows itself and the works of the Alevi authorities which were written in response to the relevant magazine. The study that carries out the textual analysis of both relevant magazine and the books, articles and interviews of Alevi authorities, tries to show that many processes from deformation to manipulation have marked the political struggle between institutional power and Alevi authorities.
